Dive into Korea’s Coolest Winter Festival!

Get ready for a one-of-a-kind winter adventure at the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, one of Korea’s most famous seasonal events!

Every January, the quiet rivers of Hwacheon transform into a sparkling wonderland of ice, drawing visitors from all over the world. Try your hand at ice fishing for Sancheoneo (mountain trout), a truly Korean winter tradition — and experience the joy of catching your own fish through a hole in the frozen river!

After fishing, warm up with grilled trout, hot snacks, and local street food, then explore the festival’s many fun attractions, from ice sledding and snow sculptures to ice slides and photo zones that capture the beauty of winter.

The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival was featured by CNN as one of the “Seven Wonders of Winter” and was listed by The New York Times as a must-visit winter festival in Asia.

Endless fun from ice fishing, bare-hand fishing, ice sled, ice sculptures, and many more!
